Lauren grew up in an active LDS family, dated frequently, and had always envisioned herself marrying in the temple. It wasn’t until she fell in love with her best girlfriend–while attending BYU–that she realized she was gay. Lauren spent one year silently coming to terms with her sexuality and considering what this meant for her life and her Mormonism. After that year, Lauren felt ready to move forward and began a long term relationship with a woman she deeply loved. Lauren eventually came out to her family who, unfazed by her confession, buoyed her up with their support. Although she is no longer an active member of the church, Lauren is grateful for those basic tenets of the gospel that encourage her to love God and her neighbor unconditionally.
